Laura A. Henry is a Professor of Government and Chair of the Department of Government at Bowdoin College. She specializes in contemporary Russian and Eastern European politics, environmental governance, and global activism. Her research focuses on Russia's post-Soviet transformation, state-society dynamics, and environmental politics, with recent work examining BRICS states' roles in global governance and Arctic resource extraction.
Dr. Henry holds a PhD and MA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA from Wellesley College. She has been a Fulbright Scholar and Watson Foundation Fellow, with grants from the National Security Education Program and others.
Her research interests span environmental activism in authoritarian regimes, transnational advocacy networks, and the impact of global norms on local communities. She has authored influential books like *Red to Green: Environmental Activism in Post-Soviet Russia* (2010) and co-authored *Bringing Global Governance Home* (2021). Recent projects analyze Russian environmentalists in exile and climate policy under authoritarianism.
Key awards include the Sydney B. Karofsky Prize for Junior Faculty (2009) and Mellon Sabbatical Fellowship (2011-2012). Her work bridges academia and public outreach, with contributions to outlets like *The Washington Post* and policy memos for PONARS Eurasia.
