University of New South Walesمعرفی
Dr. Laura A. B. Wilson is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Her academic career spans evolutionary biology, paleontology, and morphological studies with a specific focus on vertebrate development and evolution.
Dr. Wilson's research interests center around:
- Growth and development in vertebrates
- Application and development of geometric morphometric methods to study phenotypic evolution
- Statistical analysis of shape and 3D modeling
- Theoretical themes in evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo)
- Paleontology, particularly vertebrate paleontology
- Biological adaptation mechanisms
Her extensive publication record demonstrates a strong focus on morphological variation across diverse taxa including bats, crocodiles, birds of prey, and domesticated mammals. Dr. Wilson employs advanced quantitative methods such as geometric morphometrics and finite element analysis to understand evolutionary patterns and biomechanical adaptations. Her work frequently bridges the gap between developmental biology and evolutionary theory, examining how ontogenetic processes shape evolutionary trajectories.
Dr. Wilson serves on multiple editorial boards including PeerJ, Mammalian Biology, Palaeontologica Electronica, MorphoMuseuM (M3), and the American Journal of Physical Anthropology. She is also a Council Member of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology (EED).
Currently, Dr. Wilson is supervising PhD student Camilo Lopez-Aguirre and has served as a UNSW trained First Responder and UNSW Women in Maths & Science Champion. Her research has been published in numerous high-impact journals and she has contributed significantly to methodological approaches in morphometric analysis.
