Anne Le Maitre

Anne Le Maître is a Lecturer and Associated Researcher at the University of Vienna's Department of Evolutionary Biology, with additional affiliation at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research. Her research examines developmental and evolutionary mechanisms shaping vertebrate morphology, particularly ear evolution in mammals.

Using geometric morphometrics, µCT imaging, and multivariate statistics, she investigates morphological variability and integration in fossil and extant species. Current FWF-funded projects analyze evolvability of inner/middle ears across birds and mammals, building on prior work about developmental canalization in human craniofacial development.

Fieldwork includes paleontological excavations in Eocene deposits (Myanmar) and Pleistocene sites (Greece). Her teaching portfolio includes geometric morphometrics and statistical methods for evolutionary biology. As Editor-in-Chief of Bulletins et Mémoires de la Société d’Anthropologie de Paris, she promotes open science in biological anthropology.
