Latoya Attis

Dr. Latoya Attis is a Clinical Associate Professor at Yeshiva University’s Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, where she coordinates field placements for Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling programs. She holds dual expertise as a Licensed Master Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist, integrating relational techniques with community-centered advocacy to address individual and collective mental health challenges.

• Education: Ph.D. and MSW from Wurzweiler School of Social Work; MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Iona University; BA in Psychology from Marymount Manhattan College; training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy from Brown University.

Her research focuses on college student mental health, substance use disorders, and mental health service delivery, particularly among underrepresented communities. She leads studies on nonmedical opioid and alcohol use in Black/African American college students with familial substance use histories and develops interdisciplinary projects on self-advocacy training for students with disabilities and cultural competence in therapy.

Dr. Attis contributes to academic leadership through roles such as Associate Director of Academic Advising at Wurzweiler School of Social Work and membership on the Journal of Evidence-Based Social Work editorial board. She also mentors through the Council on Social Work Education’s Minority Fellowship Program.

At Ferkauf, she innovates clinical training via the Gottman Intervention Practice Lab, equipping students with hands-on skills in Gottman Therapy Levels 1 and 2 for relationship interventions.
