Lasse Aaskoven is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), affiliated with the Danish Institute of Advanced Study (DIAS) and the Danish Center for Welfare Studies. He holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen (2018) and previously served as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Essex.
His research focuses on comparative politics and political economy, with emphasis on fiscal institutions, political parties, inequality, and historical political economy. Current projects include studies on church reforms, early elections, historical land inequality, autocratic fiscal rules, and female civil servant careers.
Key themes in his work include the impact of fiscal rules on political systems, electoral dynamics, and the application of historical data to address questions of political inequality and autocratic governance. His research has been published in top journals such as Journal of Politics, World Politics, and European Journal of Political Research.
Professor Aaskoven teaches courses in advanced quantitative methods, social science methodology, and public policy. He supervises PhD students, including Lasse Skjoldager Eskildsen, whose research explores the relationship between civil rights and terrorism.
