Cecilie Bjerre is an Associate Professor at the Department of History, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences and Danish Center for Welfare Studies. Her work focuses on 20th-century welfare state history, family policy, child welfare, and neoliberalism's impact on Nordic societies.
Education: PhD in History (2020) from SDU, focusing on out-of-home placements of children; Cand.mag. in History (2014) from the University of Copenhagen. External roles include Visiting Fellow at DIAS (2024–2026) and Fagansvarlig at Lex.dk.
Research interests include family-state relations, welfare policies, and the history of Denmark's welfare state. Current projects include 'Neoliberalism in the Nordics' (international collaboration), 'The Danish Family Revolution' (co-PI), and 'Politics of Insecurity' (SDU).
Key awards include the PhD Award (2020) and Yerun Research Mobility Award (2022). Her work spans historical analysis, citizen science initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Teaching includes courses on Scandinavian welfare states, European history, and methodologies in social sciences. She actively engages in public outreach, including media contributions and citizen science projects with high school students.
