Lars Lundgren is a Professor and Head of the Department of Media and Communication Studies at Södertörn University. His work focuses on media theory, communication history, and media infrastructures, with a particular emphasis on transnational networks and technological development across political divides. He is affiliated with the School of Culture and Education, contributing to interdisciplinary research on media's role in shaping global systems.
His current research includes the study of satellite communications' historical development, as co-authored in the book No Heavenly Bodies (MIT Press, 2023), which examines the Soviet Union's role in Cold War-era satellite infrastructure. Another ongoing project, A Sea of Data (2023–2025), explores how media technologies influence human understanding of marine environments and surveillance practices.
Publications and projects reflect Lundgren's archival methodology, tracing technological and geopolitical intersections in media history. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary debates on global communication networks and environmental knowledge production.
