Larry Spain is the Alvin R. Allison Professor of Law at Texas Tech University School of Law since 2015, serving as Professor of Law since 2001 and Director of Clinical Programs and Civil Practice Clinic. Prior to joining Texas Tech, he spent 18 years at the University of North Dakota School of Law as Director of Clinical Programs. His career spans legal practice in Nebraska, North Dakota, and Texas, alongside leadership roles in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and pro bono advocacy.

Professor Spain's research focuses on alternative dispute resolution, pro bono legal services, clinical legal education, and access to justice. His work examines ethical integration of collaborative law, systemic barriers in rural legal access, and poverty measurement frameworks. Recent publications emphasize ADR applications for underserved populations and legal pedagogy innovations.
He has received multiple awards for his pro bono contributions, including the Texas Access to Justice Commission's ATJ Pro Bono Champion (2008) and Texas Bar Foundation's Outstanding Law Review Article Award (2005). His leadership extends to chairing the Advisory Board for Lubbock County's Office of Dispute Resolution and the Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas since 2003.
As a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Spain promotes legal professionalism and community engagement. His teaching includes the Civil Practice Clinic, Family Law, and Advanced ADR Clinic, reflecting his commitment to experiential learning.
