Lara Wöhler

Lara Wöhler is an Assistant Professor in Multidisciplinary Water Management at the University of Twente. Her research focuses on environmental sustainability, specifically addressing water footprint analysis, pharmaceutical pollution in water systems, and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges. She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to clean water and responsible consumption.

Her work integrates methods like life cycle assessments and explores institutional factors influencing cross-sector collaboration in rural environmental management. Recent activities include membership in the Pharma Pollution Hub and Stichting RIONED, as well as an invited talk on water footprint analysis in 2024.

Key research outputs include a 2025 review on complementary strengths of water footprint and life cycle assessments, and a 2023 study on pharmaceutical pollution from livestock farming. Her 2022 PhD thesis provided a foundational analysis of pharmaceuticals in water systems.

Wöhler actively collaborates internationally and hosts academic visitors, such as Qiyuan Hu (2023–2024), to advance research on water and environmental sustainability.
