Lara Khoury is a Full Professor at McGill University's Faculty of Law, serving as Associate Vice-President (Research) and holding a Canada Research Chair in Civil Liability, Health Governance, and Social Change (Tier 1). She is an associate member of the Department of Equity, Ethics, and Policy at the McGill School of Population and Global Health. Her research focuses on medical, public health, and environmental law, particularly addressing liability issues arising from scientific uncertainty and technological advancements.
Dr. Khoury chairs the McGill Health and Law Research Group with Alana Klein and has held roles including Associate Dean of Research (2015–2017). She is a member of the Institute of Comparative Law and the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. Her landmark work Uncertain Causation in Medical Liability (2006) earned the Fondation du Barreau du Québec Prize (2008), examining causation challenges in medical liability across jurisdictions.
Key honors include membership in the International Academy of Comparative Law (2019), Avocat émérite (2019), and the Canadian Bar Association’s John-Ramon-Hnatyshyn Prize (2023). Her research spans liability frameworks for AI in healthcare, pandemic accountability, and genetic testing governance. Current grants include leadership in DNA to RNA (D2R) research (CFREF-funded, 2023–2030) and projects on product safety liability.
