Laodong Guo is Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences, specializing in aquatic biogeochemistry. His research examines the role of natural organic matter and nanoparticles in governing the fate of chemical species in aquatic environments.
Research focuses on biogeochemical cycling of carbon, nutrients, and trace elements; microplastics/nanoplastics pollution; physicochemical processes at environmental interfaces; and climate change impacts on aquatic systems. Current investigations analyze dissolved organic matter dynamics, microplastic transformations, and blue carbon sequestration in coastal ecosystems.
Publications demonstrate expertise in organic matter characterization, with recent emphasis on PFAS deposition history, microplastic pollution, and climate-driven changes in carbon cycles. Work frequently employs advanced analytical techniques to study molecular-level processes in freshwater and marine systems.
Guo serves as editor for Journal of Oceanography and associate editor for Frontiers in Environmental Science. His research contributes to understanding anthropogenic impacts on aquatic systems and developing mitigation strategies.
