Landon Huffman is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Sport Management at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. His academic background includes a PhD in Kinesiology and Sport Studies from the University of Tennessee, and MA/BA degrees in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Huffman’s research focuses on the intersection of sport, religion, spirituality, and holistic development, particularly for intercollegiate athletes. He explores topics such as spiritual care models for athletes, sport chaplaincy standards, and cross-cultural sport-for-development initiatives in marginalized communities. His work emphasizes fostering vocational identity, hope, and life success beyond sport.
He has secured over $110,000 in external grants for initiatives like sport camps, coach training, and community empowerment programs in Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Jordan, and Cherokee, NC. Dr. Huffman teaches courses such as Foundations of Sport Management, Intercollegiate Athletics, and Legal & Ethical Issues in Sport. His service includes roles as an editorial board member for Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics, and affiliations with the Center for Sport, Peace, and Society and the Christian Society for Kinesiology and Leisure Studies.
Dr. Huffman’s academic service includes strategic planning for NAIA athletics, international sport management consulting, and promoting higher education access in low-income communities. His research has been presented globally, with over 35 conference presentations and 14 peer-reviewed articles.
