Lan Huang, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine, and serves as Graduate Faculty Advisor. Her research focuses on protein-protein interactions, proteomics, and cellular mechanisms involving ubiquitin ligases. Huang employs advanced techniques like proximity labeling expansion microscopy (PL-ExM) to study interactome structures and spatial proteomic dynamics.
Her work integrates biochemistry, structural biology, and molecular biology to address challenges in detecting protein interactions with high spatial resolution. Key projects include analyzing cullin-RING ubiquitin ligases (CRLs), Golgi-centrosome interactions, and proteasome regulation. Huang’s contributions have advanced methodologies for cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS), enabling structural studies of cellular networks.
Her research is funded by grants such as NIH DP2 GM150017 and R01GM074830. Collaborative studies with teams at UCI and other institutions highlight her role in interdisciplinary projects. Huang’s lab investigates mechanisms underlying cellular stress responses, protein quality control, and signaling pathways critical for disease processes like cancer and neurodegeneration.
