Lalitaraja Chandler

Lalitaraja Chandler is a Lecturer at the University of Roehampton, where she teaches improvisation, contact improvisation, choreography, and performance on BA and MFA programs. She is a multifaceted dance artist, educator, Feldenkrais practitioner, and ordained Buddhist, integrating her expertise across these domains in both performance and academia.

Her research explores the interplay between improvisation and spiritual practice, particularly through the lens of Heidegger’s concepts of Gelassenheit (releasement) and Aletheia (revealing). She also investigates somatic practices, especially the Feldenkrais Method, as a framework for phenomenological inquiry into embodied experience.

Chandler organizes the Friday Club, a long-standing forum for dance improvisation, and has presented over 25 commissioned works. Her collaborations span notable institutions like the Royal Opera House and London Contemporary Dance School.
