Dr. Lakeisha R. Harrison is an Assistant Dean for Student Services, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and a Professorial Lecturer at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University. She holds a part-time faculty position. Her expertise spans Africa, law, public policy, religion, gender studies, international affairs, regulatory affairs, and energy.
Education includes a B.A. in Psychology, B.F.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of Michigan; Graduate Certificates in International Studies and Women's Studies; an M.A. in Religious Studies; and a Juris Doctorate and Ph.D. in African Studies from Howard University.
Her research focuses on the intersection of law, public policy, religion, and women's rights, particularly in reproductive rights and African studies. She has conducted fieldwork in Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, and South Africa. Teaching includes courses like 'Introduction to Contemporary Africa' and 'HIV/AIDS in Africa and the African Diaspora' at Howard University, and 'International Relations in Africa' at GW.
Professionally, Dr. Harrison worked in energy sectors (private and public) since 2003, including as a chief regulatory expert at the U.S. Department of the Interior. She advised on U.S. energy policy internationally and contributed to repatriation efforts of American Indian sacred objects. She is licensed to practice law in New York and Michigan.
