Laila Nashid is a Lecturer in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University. She holds a BA in Literatures in English from Emory University. Her research examines sociocultural and thematic connections in portrayals of Black girlhood across 19th to 21st century works by Black women authors, alongside contemporary Black girl narratives constructed through social media aesthetics. She employs a Black Feminist theoretical framework. Her creative work includes published Young Adult fiction with HarperCollins and Macmillan Publishers.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as ENGL 1160: FWS: Intersections: Race, Writing, and Power (Spring 2025) and ENGL 1168: FWS: Cultural Studies (Fall 2025). Her academic focus bridges traditional literary analysis with modern digital cultural expressions, emphasizing intersectional approaches to race, gender, and media.
