Dr. Laijun Lai is a Research Professor in the Department of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut's College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources. His NIH and American Cancer Society-funded research program ($8M+ funding) focuses on three principal areas: 1) Bioinformatics identification of novel immune checkpoint molecules for cancer/autoimmune treatment, 2) Stem cell-derived therapies for immunodeficiency disorders, and 3) Gene engineering approaches for T-cell immunodeficiency in aging populations. His laboratory employs cutting-edge techniques including molecular cloning, protein purification, antibody production, and stem cell technology.
Research spans bioinformatics, immunology, and regenerative medicine, with therapeutic applications for cancer, autoimmune disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions. Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on protein engineering solutions for neurological and inflammatory diseases utilizing mouse models. The laboratory maintains expertise in advanced methodologies including iPSC differentiation and in vivo disease modeling.
