LaToya Council serves as an Assistant Professor at Lehigh University in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Southern California (2022), an MA from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (2014), and a BA from Spelman College (2012).
- Research Focus: Race, gender, and class intersections; health and wellness in Black communities; qualitative methodologies (archival research, interviews, participant observation).
- Current Projects: Analysis of heterosexual Black middle-class couples' time use; place-making as self-care among Black middle-class women.
- Publications: Contributions to Journal of Black Sexuality and Relationships, Sociology Compass, and Sociological Perspectives. Co-author of the children's book IntersectionAllies: We Make Room for All.
- Teaching Philosophy: Emphasizes social justice and emotional sociology, including courses on Black families and social theory.
