Dr. L. Brook Sawyer serves as Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies at Lehigh University, dedicating her career to advancing educational outcomes for vulnerable young populations through interdisciplinary research in language, cognition, and literacy development.
Her academic foundation includes:

- M.S.Ed. from University of Pennsylvania
- B.S.Ed. from University of Delaware
Dr. Sawyer's research centers on evidence-based interventions for children with disabilities and multilingual learners (MLs), emphasizing how ecological systems influence developmental trajectories. She investigates parental and educator practices through Bronfenbrenner's theoretical framework, developing targeted strategies to mitigate reading difficulties in high-risk populations. Her work bridges special education, language acquisition, and literacy science with practical classroom applications.
She currently leads an Institute of Education Sciences (IES) grant for the "Parents Plus en Español" initiative, creating culturally responsive tools for families of MLs. As Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, she shapes advanced education programs while mentoring future scholars in teaching methodologies and technology integration.
