Kyubyung Kang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Construction Management Technology at Purdue University's Purdue Polytechnic Institute. His research focuses on leveraging digital twin technology, remote sensing, and computer vision to enhance infrastructure and asset management. He collaborates with the Indiana Department of Transportation and international institutions on projects involving pavement rehabilitation, EV charging infrastructure, and smart city solutions. Kang holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering and Management) from Purdue University, an MSc in Earthquake Engineering from University College London, and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Chungbuk National University.
Research interests include blockchain-based incentive structures for public data submission, digital twins for built environments, and modular construction methods. His work addresses infrastructure sustainability, public engagement in data collection, and AI-driven decision support systems. Notable collaborations include projects on traffic control optimization, EV infrastructure planning, and disaster-resilient supply chains.
Recognition includes the 2025 Purdue Polytechnic Faculty and Staff Excellence Award and multiple Polytechnic Research Awards (2022). Kang leads the Purdue Simple Lab, advancing applied AI and real-world construction technology solutions. His teaching emphasizes hands-on learning through the CEM Capstone course redesign, integrating industry-relevant challenges and cognitive apprenticeship methods.
