Kyriakos Ioannou is a Clinical Associate Professor in Nephrology at the European University Cyprus and a Scientific Associate at the Molecular Medicine Research Center of the University of Cyprus. He has held unpaid clinical associate roles in research protocols at the Department of Electron Microscopy, Institute of Genetics and Neurology, Cyprus, since 2007.

His research spans chronic kidney disease progression, diabetic nephropathy diagnostics, Alport syndrome molecular mechanisms, cardiovascular complications in CKD patients, and proteomics/genomics of kidney diseases. Recent work includes epidemiological studies on renal replacement therapies and European CKD burden comparisons.
His publications highlight trends in kidney transplantation, oxidative stress in CKD, and inflammation-related cardiac remodeling. Key collaborations include the European CKD Burden Consortium and EuroKUP proteomics projects.
Scientific contributions include grants from the European Community’s 7th Framework Programme, European Regional Development Fund, and Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation. He served as Coordinator for the Cyprus-Romania epidemiology project and leads Cyprus representation in the ERA-EDTA Registry.
