Kyriacos Felekkis is a Professor and Head of the Department of Life and Health Sciences at the School of Sciences and Engineering, University of Nicosia. He holds a BSc in Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (2000) and a degree in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from Boston University School of Medicine (2004). His research focuses on the molecular basis of human diseases, particularly the role of microRNAs in disease progression and biomarker discovery for renal diseases and cancer. Felekkis leads an EU-funded Horizon2020 project (OActive), which develops computer models for osteoarthritis diagnosis/treatment, and co-leads a study on miRNA interactions with bovine meat and colorectal cancer. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches combining biology, AI, and engineering to address complex health challenges.
- Education: BSc Biotechnology (Worcester Polytechnic Institute), Pathology & Lab Medicine (Boston University).
- Research Themes: MicroRNA regulation, biomarker development, disease mechanisms.
- Projects: OActive (EU project), bovine miRNA-cancer link investigation.
Felekkis advocates for translational research that bridges basic science and clinical impact, aiming to improve human health through innovative diagnostics and therapies.
