Jingfang Ju, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at Stony Brook University's Renaissance School of Medicine. He serves as Vice Chair of Experimental Pathology and Director of Oncogenic Drivers and Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis at the Stony Brook Cancer Center. His research focuses on elucidating the mechanism of translational control mediated by non-coding RNAs in cancer and translating these discoveries to clinical cancer diagnosis and therapy.
Dr. Ju's research interests span several critical areas in molecular oncology. His group was the first to discover that p53 regulates the expression of certain miRNAs, opening a new frontier in cancer research. Currently, they investigate miRNA mechanisms in proliferation, cell cycle control, chemoresistance to fluoropyrimidines and antifolates in tumor stem cells, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. They also develop novel approaches to study post-transcriptional control mediated by miRNAs and RNA binding proteins. A significant translational component of their work focuses on miRNAs as biomarkers in cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
The analysis of Dr. Ju's 15 most recent publications reveals a consistent research trajectory centered on microRNA biology in cancer. His work spans colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, osteosarcoma, and other malignancies, with particular emphasis on chemoresistance mechanisms, autophagy regulation, and the p53-microRNA circuit. His research shows a progression from fundamental molecular discoveries to potential clinical applications, with increasing focus on translational aspects in recent years.

Dr. Ju leads research in the Basic Sciences Tower at Stony Brook Medicine, where his laboratory investigates the fundamental mechanisms of RNA-mediated gene regulation in cancer. His work bridges basic science with clinical applications, particularly in developing miRNA-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment.
