Kyna Leski is a Professor of Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where she has served as Department Head and Graduate Program Director. Her academic career spans over three decades, emphasizing design pedagogy rooted in material engagement and iterative processes. She co-founded 3SIXØ Architecture, recognized for projects like Brown University’s Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship and Community Music Works. Leski’s research explores the creative process, published in her award-winning book The Storm of Creativity (MIT Press, 2015), translated into multiple languages.
Educated at The Cooper Union (BARC) and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (MARC), Leski integrates art, science, and architecture in her work. She advocates for embodied learning, emphasizing observation, improvisation, and imagination. Her professional accolades include a Lifetime Achievement Award from DesignxRI (2017) and induction into its Hall of Fame.
Leski’s creative practice extends to animation, illustration, and public speaking. She collaborates with environmentalists and scientists on projects addressing global shorelines’ crises. Her recent work focuses on ‘Design by Field,’ a methodology prioritizing interconnected consequences in world design.
