Kyle Monahan is a Part-time Lecturer at the Gordon Institute within Tufts University's School of Engineering and serves as Manager of Data Science Services at Tufts. He holds a Master's in Environmental Health (Tufts, 2017) and a Master's in Environmental Science & Engineering (Clarkson, 2014), with a B.S. in Environmental Science and Psychology (dual degree). His work bridges environmental science and data analytics, focusing on agent-based modeling for water technologies and geospatial analysis of complex systems.
Research interests include data science applications in public health, environmental sustainability, and scalable computing. He co-developed the Global Nutrition and Health Atlas (GNHA), led studies on foodborne outbreak data completeness, and pioneered machine learning approaches for urban noise classification. Kyle has taught at Harvard Extension School since 2014 and manages Tufts' statistical consulting services, supporting over 200+ hours of teaching and research collaborations.
His professional experience spans roles as a GIS Analyst (2016-2017), Statistics Specialist (2017-2018), and Senior Data Science Specialist (2018-2020), where he contributed to Tufts' Data Analytics master's program design and World Bank Tableau dashboards. Active in open-source communities, he is a Software Carpentry instructor and founder of NESCLiC.
Current projects include collaborating with the Center for Health and Environmental Justice and advancing LLM-based educational tools. Kyle's work emphasizes making technical methods accessible, with a focus on bridging environmental science and computational solutions.
