Kyle Cranmer is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Director of the American Family Insurance Data Science Institute. He holds affiliate appointments in Computer Sciences and Statistics. Previously, he spent 15 years at New York University and was Executive Director of the Moore-Sloan Data Science Environment.
Education: PhD in Physics from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2005); B.A. in Mathematics and Physics from Rice University.
Research focuses on high-energy particle physics (ATLAS collaboration), machine learning applications in physical sciences, and statistical inference. Notable contributions include the collaborative statistical framework used in the 2012 Higgs boson discovery. He is a leader in integrating machine learning with physics, serving on national advisory panels like the Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5).
Key achievements include Presidential Early Career Award (2007), NSF CAREER Award (2009), and Fellow of the American Physical Society (2021). Over 150+ peer-reviewed publications span particle physics, cosmology, and data science methodologies.
