Ky Hoang serves as an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana State University. He joined the faculty on August 1, 2021, after completing his PhD at the University of Tennessee in 2011 and earning his DVM from the Institute of Agriculture in Vietnam in 2000.
Dr. Hoang's research program focuses on bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, with particular emphasis on intracellular pathogens including Francisella tularensis, Salmonella species, and Legionella pneumophila. His laboratory develops innovative host-directed therapeutic approaches to combat these challenging infections.
His publication record spans from 2011 to 2025, showing consistent productivity in high-impact journals. Recent work (2022-2025) demonstrates continued relevance and advancement in the field, with research evolving from fundamental mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis toward more translational therapeutic development.
Dr. Hoang has secured significant research funding as Principal Investigator on a Technology Development Fund Award for developing host-targeted therapies against typhoid fever and sepsis (2020-2022), and as Co-Investigator on an NIH R21 grant studying virulence regulation in Francisella (2019-2021).
His research employs interdisciplinary approaches combining microbiology, immunology, and drug delivery systems to address critical challenges in treating intracellular bacterial infections, with potential applications for improving outcomes in serious infectious diseases.
