Kwan Ho Lau is an Associate Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University (SMU), and Deputy Director of the Centre for Commercial Law in Asia. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at SMU from July 2018 to June 2025. His research focuses on contract law, private law, and judicial decision-making in common law systems. He holds an LL.M. from New York University (2012) and an LL.B. (First Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore (2012).
His work has been cited by courts in Singapore and Hong Kong, and he has provided expert testimony on Singapore law in foreign proceedings. Lau also serves as a Senior Fellow at Melbourne Law School, a Lee Kong Chian Fellow at SMU, and a Professorial Fellow at the AGC-Legal Service Academy. He teaches courses in Contract Law, Business Law, and Corporate Law.
Key research interests include contractual accessions, cost of cure damages, novation, and comparative analysis of unfair contract terms across jurisdictions. His publications explore topics such as legal formalism, judicial precedent, and contractual estoppel. Lau has received multiple awards, including the Postgraduate Teaching Award (2024) and the Most Promising Teacher Award (2019).
