Kwame Phillips is a Senior Lecturer in Media Practices at the Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. His work focuses on sensory media production, multimodal methodologies, and race/social justice. He co-created the multi-sensorial sound art project 'Kabusha Radio Remix' and contributes to the Visual Scholarship Initiative. Phillips teaches internationally in underserved communities, emphasizing experimental approaches to media studies.
Research interests include mixtape scholarship, public art curation, and critical race theory. Notable works include visual mixtapes like 'The Imagined Things' and 'Lovers Rock Dub'. He is co-author of 'The Futures of Black Radicalism' (2017) and upcoming publications on Steve McQueen's films and ethnographic exhibits.
His creative outputs blend academic and artistic practices, challenging traditional formats through sonic narratives and multimodal installations. Phillips currently supervises PhD students and actively seeks new research collaborations.
