Kwabena Asare

Dr. Kwabena Asare is a Research Fellow at the Department of Non-Communicable Disease Epidemiology, Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). He holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and an MSc in Epidemiology from Wits University, both in South Africa. His research focuses on infections, brain health, frailty in aging populations, and electronic health records, with fieldwork spanning South Africa, Ghana, and the UK.

Research Interests: Kwabena's work bridges infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, STIs), non-communicable diseases, and electronic health records. He leads studies on brain health and frailty in older adults, utilizing large-scale datasets from the UK and South Africa. His publications emphasize HIV treatment optimization, epidemiological methods, and public health interventions in resource-limited settings.

Publication Trends: His recent articles (2022–2025) predominantly analyze HIV treatment outcomes, antiretroviral therapy efficacy, and comorbidities in African populations. Key themes include dolutegravir-based regimens, maternal/child health, diabetes management, and climate-health interactions, employing cohort studies, clinical trials, and geospatial analyses.

Teaching: He instructs modules in Epidemiology, Medical Statistics, Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy, Electronic Health Records Research, and Pharmacoepidemiology via intensive, distance, and short-course formats.

Affiliations: Kwabena collaborates with the Brain Health study group (Electronic Health Records Research Unit) and has held positions at the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa and the Dodowa Health Research Centre.
