Kurt Kornelsen is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Earth, Environment & Society, McMaster University. His research focuses on hydrology, remote sensing, and environmental modeling, with particular emphasis on soil moisture dynamics and groundwater discharge processes.
- Role: Adjunct Assistant Professor
- Institution: McMaster University
- Department: Earth, Environment & Society
His scholarly activity includes 15 recent publications (2013–2024) on topics such as satellite soil moisture retrieval, data-driven hydrological modeling, entropy-based network design, and groundwater-surface water interactions. Notably, he contributed to the development of Canada’s CaSPAr platform for environmental modeling and optimized soil moisture monitoring networks using SMOS data.
His work integrates machine learning, remote sensing, and hydrological modeling to address challenges in water resource management and climate data accuracy. He has also been involved in teaching graduate-level hydrological modeling courses at McMaster University.
