Dr. Sung-ho Hong serves as an Assistant Professor in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department at Murray State University, Kentucky. His academic appointment includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses such as The Earth and the Environment, Introduction to Geographic Information Sciences, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, and Application of Remote Sensing in Hydrogeology. His research leverages remote sensing technologies to address critical hydrological challenges, with a focus on evapotranspiration and soil moisture dynamics across diverse landscapes.
Dr. Hong earned his Ph.D. from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
His primary research interests include:
- Remote sensing-based estimation of evapotranspiration and soil moisture
- Spatial scaling of remote sensing data (up-scaling and down-scaling)
- Investigation of rootzone soil moisture variability
- Integration of scintillometry and eddy covariance for validation
- Applications in arid and semi-arid regions

Dr. Hong's publication record reveals a strong emphasis on methodological advancements in remote sensing for hydrology.
