Kurt Huebner

Kurt Huebner is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Arts. He joined UBC in 2006 as Director of the Institute for European Studies and later became a faculty member in Political Science. His research focuses on institutions, capital accumulation, European integration, sustainability, and political economy. He holds grants from the SSHRC, European Commission, and Hans Boeckler Foundation.

Education: PhD from the Free University of Berlin. His work spans currency regimes, EU economic policies, and low-carbon economies. Notable awards include the 2008 ECSA-Canada Best Paper Award.

Teaching includes courses on European Politics, International Political Economy, and European Integration. He organizes the annual EU Study Tour and internship program, and mentors students in the EU Model University. Active as a public speaker on European integration challenges, he has visiting roles at universities like Hebrew University, Sciences Po, and LUISS Rome.

Research interests emphasize sustainability and global competitiveness, leveraging interdisciplinary approaches. Recent publications address CETA, TTIP, Eurozone crises, and German growth models. His work bridges academic and policy realms, addressing transnational governance challenges.
