Kurt Deketelaere is a part-time full professor of EU environmental, energy, and climate law at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Law and Criminological Sciences and a visiting professor at the University of Helsinki. He serves as Secretary-General of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and chairs Sustainability College Bruges. His work spans legal frameworks for sustainability, EU policy, and higher education reform.

His research focuses on EU environmental and energy law, climate litigation, and transboundary water governance. Recent publications analyze active consumer roles in energy systems and judicial approaches to environmental disputes.
