Kunal Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Wittenberg University, specializing in RNA biology with a focus on nuclear-cytoplasmic shuttling of tRNA molecules. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, followed by postdoctoral training at The Ohio State University. His research uses yeast as a model organism to study tRNA export mechanisms and their implications in diseases like cancer, earning him the Pelotonia Cancer Fellowship in 2016.
Dr. Chatterjee teaches courses such as Microbiology and Non-infectious Diseases. His research interests span microbiology, molecular genetics, and the application of these fields to human health. He has published widely on topics including tRNA dynamics, RNA export pathways, and public health issues like physical activity disparities and pandemic response strategies.
- Education:
- B.S. and M.S. in Microbiology, Calcutta University
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine
His work bridges molecular mechanisms with broader health applications, reflected in publications ranging from yeast genetics to epidemiological studies on stress fractures and snakebite management. He actively contributes to the scientific community through peer-reviewed articles and interdisciplinary research.
- Awards:
- Pelotonia Cancer Fellowship (2016)
Outside academia, Dr. Chatterjee enjoys cooking, mythology, and cinema.
