Kumari Lane

Mrs. Kumari Lane is an Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck Law School, part of the University of London. She holds multiple legal qualifications, including an LLB and LLM from London, an LLM/LLB from Cambridge, and an MPhil from London. She has been teaching law since 1980, currently convening the Advanced Contract Law module for the University of London's online LLM program and examining contract and tort law for undergraduate programs.

Her research focuses on climate change refugees and refugee law through a postcolonial lens, highlighted in her Birkbeck Big Ideas presentation on colonialism, industrialization, climate change, and forced migration. She teaches modules such as Tort Law and contributes to legal education across multiple institutions.

Awarded the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), she emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches connecting legal frameworks with global socio-environmental issues.
