Kumar Alagappan

Dr. Kumar Alagappan is Chair of Emergency Medicine and Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with prior roles as Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He practices Emergency Medicine with a focus on oncologic emergencies and international healthcare development.

His research interests span Emergency Medicine, Immunology, and International Health, particularly tetanus immunity studies and establishing emergency care systems in low-resource countries. Recent work addresses empathy in PPE-wearing oncology emergency physicians, immune checkpoint therapy adverse effects, and cancer patient triage complexities.

Publications reflect expertise in oncologic emergencies, disaster medicine, and global health systems, including tetanus antibody seroprevalence in HIV patients and EMS development frameworks. He has co-chaired international emergency medicine conferences and pioneered the Combined EM/IM Residency program.

As co-founder of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine in India (AAEMI) and Global Academy of Emergency Medicine (GAEM), he has promoted emergency care in India through institutional partnerships and training programs.
