Kristy Buccieri is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Sociology at Trent University, affiliated with Otonabee College. She holds a B.Soc.Sc. from the University of Ottawa, an M.A. from Carleton University, and a Ph.D. from York University. Her research focuses on homelessness, healthcare access, public health policy, and community-based solutions. Current projects include a national study on the impact of the pandemic on rural homelessness services and prior work on H1N1 pandemic preparedness in the homelessness sector.
Teaching includes SOCI 1002H (Introduction to Sociology II) and SOCI 3160H (Data Analysis), with a focus on integrating real-world examples into coursework. She emphasizes storytelling to connect sociological concepts with contemporary issues like homelessness and health equity. Recent publications highlight pandemic planning challenges for marginalized populations, gendered mental health outcomes among the homeless, and clinician bias in healthcare delivery.
Buccieri’s work emphasizes collaboration with communities to create tangible policy changes. She has contributed to frameworks for ending women’s homelessness and developed mobile technology tools to empower homeless youth.
