Gray's research examines structural violence, resistance, inquests, institutional responses to sexual violence, and Indigenous health data sovereignty. She employs critical frameworks from criminology, sociology, and Indigenous studies to analyze systemic inequities. Her approach centers marginalized voices, particularly in contexts of colonial violence and gender oppression.
Publications since 2019 reveal a focus on: (1) Indigenous health policy and data sovereignty, (2) homelessness among aging/Indigenous populations, and (3) legal mechanisms silencing sexual violence survivors. Her 2024 book Suing for Silence is a landmark contribution critiquing defamation law's role in perpetuating gender-based violence.
Gray adopts a hands-on supervisory approach for students researching gendered violence and Indigenous health, emphasizing regular collaboration to develop critical academic and professional skills.
