معرفی
Kristopher Fletcher is an Associate Professor of Classics at Louisiana State University (LSU), affiliated with the Department of Classics within the College of Humanities & Social Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2005). His research focuses on Augustan Poetry, Mythology, Reception Studies, and Postcolonial Theory in classical texts. Recent teaching includes courses on Vergil’s Aeneid, Apuleius’ The Golden Ass, and Medieval/Renaissance Latin literature.
Dr. Fletcher’s work bridges ancient and modern contexts, exploring themes like colonialism in Vergil’s Aeneid and the intersection of classical mythology with postcolonial theory. His 2023 publication The Ass of the Gods examines metamorphosis narratives in Graeco-Roman literature, while his 2019 edited volume Classical Antiquity in Heavy Metal Music highlights interdisciplinary connections between ancient texts and contemporary culture.
His scholarship also critiques problematic historical uses of classical works, such as the 1890s novel Eneas Africanus, which weaponized Vergilian themes to justify white supremacy. He serves as a leading voice in rethinking classical reception in modern contexts.
