Kristine Macartney is a Professor in the Discipline of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney. Education: Graduated in medicine from the University of New South Wales, with specialty training in Sydney and at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She earned a Doctorate of Medicine on rotavirus immunology and vaccine development.
Research Focus: Specialises in vaccine preventable diseases, immunisation policy, and translational research. Key areas include rotavirus, varicella zoster virus, influenza, and COVID-19 vaccine safety. Her work addresses wealth inequality in vaccine access, immunisation in vulnerable populations, and adverse event surveillance.
Scientific Leadership: Serves on advisory committees for the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS), and Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI). She leads national surveillance networks like AusVaxSafety and PAEDS, and chairs the Australian Regional Immunisation Alliance (ARIA).
