Kristina Großmann

Prof. Dr. Kristina Großmann is a Professor at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, University of Bonn. Her research focuses on human-environmental relationships, sustainability, and asymmetrical dependencies in Southeast Asia, with a primary emphasis on Indonesia. She examines issues such as gender, ethnicity, and religion in the context of extractive industries and development narratives.

Her work integrates ethnographic data to analyze the socio-political dynamics of resource extraction, particularly coal mining in Central Kalimantan. She critiques the state's development policies while highlighting local perceptions of extractivism as a symbol of progress. Her findings reveal how patronage networks and corporate strategies influence community reliance on extractive industries despite environmental and social challenges.
