Kristina Bolender is a Researcher and doctoral researcher at Bielefeld University's Faculty of Sociology. She serves as a Research Associate in the Working Group on German and Transnational Social Policy (AG Kaasch) under Prof. Dr. Alexandra Kaasch within the Department of Politics and Society. Concurrently, she is a doctoral candidate at the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology and a member of the Bielefeld School of Education (BiSEd).
Her academic background includes:
- Ongoing Doctorate in Sociology (since 2023) at Bielefeld University
- MA in Sociology (2018) from Bielefeld University
- BA in Political Science and Literature (2015) from Bielefeld University
Her research centers on family support systems during societal crises, with emphasis on sibling relationships as social resources and family dynamics in migration contexts. Using qualitative case studies, she examines how families—particularly those with migration backgrounds—navigate challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic through cultural and religious lenses. Her work explores cultural identity negotiation, integration processes, and multi-layered coping strategies during systemic stressors, contributing to understanding solidarity mechanisms in vulnerable populations.
Bolender actively participates in the Kaasch Group's transnational social policy research and previously contributed to BiSEd's Teachers Plus project (2020-2021), focusing on educational resilience frameworks.
