Kristin van Zwieten is the Clifford Chance Professor of Law and Finance at the University of Oxford’s Law Faculty and Gullifer Fellow at Harris Manchester College. She directs the Commercial Law Centre at Harris Manchester and serves as a Research Member of the European Corporate Governance Institute. Her research focuses on corporate insolvency law, law and finance, and law and development, with particular expertise in Indian corporate insolvency frameworks. She advises the World Bank on insolvency law reforms in emerging markets and co-founded the Oxford Business Law Blog.
Her recent projects include studying pandemic-era business distress and post-Brexit English insolvency law. Notable talks include keynote addresses at the European Association of Law and Economics and the Inner Temple Reader’s Lecture. She holds a doctorate from the Oxford Law Faculty and previously practiced corporate law in Australia. Key publications include Goode on Principles of Corporate Insolvency Law and Commentary on the European Insolvency Regulation.
Her work bridges legal frameworks and economic realities, analyzing how crises like the pandemic reshape corporate law. Engagements span academic writing, policy consulting, and editorial leadership, reflecting her dual focus on theory and practice in commercial law.
