Kristin Stapleton is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of History at the University at Buffalo, part of the State University of New York system. She specializes in modern Chinese history, urban politics, and cultural history, with a focus on Chengdu and broader comparative urban studies. Her research explores Chinese family life, socialism, and the role of humor in historical analysis.

- Key Affiliations: Co-director of NEH Summer Institute on China-India Comparisons, member of Urban History Association Board, and Research Associate at Sichuan University’s Urban Studies Program.
Her research interests include transnational urban reform, policing in modern China, and the intersection of literature and history.
