Kristin J. Labby is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Chemistry and Biochemistry department at Beloit College. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northwestern University and a B.S. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on medicinal chemistry, antibiotic discovery, and the intersection of chemistry with art and archaeology. She actively involves students in research projects, including the Tiny Earth initiative to combat antibiotic resistance. Labby teaches courses such as Antibiotic Discovery and Instrumental Analysis, incorporating technical analysis of art and artifacts into her curriculum. She advises students pursuing health professions and collaborates with Beloit College’s museums for interdisciplinary projects. Her work emphasizes hands-on learning and authentic research experiences.
