Josh Pultorak serves as an Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID), actively mentoring undergraduate researchers in the global Tiny Earth initiative to address antibiotic resistance through soil bacteria analysis.
Education:
- BA in Psychology and Zoology (minor in Neuroscience) from Miami University
- PhD in Zoology from University of Wisconsin–Madison
- Certificate of Excellence in Research, Teaching and Learning from UW-Madison's Delta Program
His research integrates experimental biology with innovative pedagogy, focusing on threshold concept models and active learning efficacy in Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs). Current work examines environmental influences on antibiotic activity through the Tiny Earth network, while prior research explored monogamy mechanisms in California mice (featured in National Geographic) and Parkinsonism neuropathology using PINK1 gene knock-out rat models.
Scientific Awards:
- Certificate of Excellence in Research, Teaching and Learning
As primary mentor for dozens of Tiny Earth undergraduates, he bridges biomedical research with educational innovation. His Parkinson's-related vocal deficit studies demonstrate translational applications of basic science, while his pedagogical work establishes evidence-based frameworks for biology education reform.
He operates within WID's interdisciplinary ecosystem at 330 N. Orchard Street, collaborating with the Tiny Earth consortium to connect students globally in antibiotic discovery pipelines while advancing course-based research methodologies.
