Kristin Baetz is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa and serves as Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Calgary. She holds a BSc from Queen’s University, a PhD from the University of Toronto, and completed post-doctoral research at the University of British Columbia.
Research Interests:
- Yeast functional and chemical genomics
- Chromosome stability in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and its relevance to human cancer biology
- Role of lysine acetyltransferases (e.g., NuA4 complex) in chromatin-associated processes
- Transcriptional regulation via iron-responsive factors like Aft1
- Chemical genomic approaches to Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms
- Industrial yeast strain optimization for cellulosic biofuels
Publication Trends: Her research spans yeast genetics, epigenetics, and proteomics, with a focus on conserved biological processes between yeast and humans. Key themes include chromosome stability networks, histone modification dynamics, and industrial applications of yeast systems biology.
