Kristie Seelman is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. They teach courses on social justice, communication skills, human development, social welfare policy, research methods, and community partnerships. Their research employs critical theories to explore LGBTQIA+ agency, resistance, and resilience, with additional focus on health disparities and anti-racist policy analysis.
Dr. Seelman uses diverse methodologies including qualitative, quantitative, and visual data analysis. They are developing immersive 3D environments for social work education and have published in journals such as Social Work and Violence Against Women. Their work has been featured in major media outlets including The Washington Post.
Recognitions include a Fulbright Specialist appointment and PIT-UN fellowship. Dr. Seelman mentors students interested in LGBTQIA+ research and maintains international collaborations.
