Dr. Gene Dockery is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Seattle University’s Counseling Master’s Program, specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. They hold a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University, MA in Counseling from East Tennessee State University, and BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Dr. Dockery’s clinical expertise focuses on LGBTQIA mental health and neurodivergence. They have worked in residential addiction treatment, college counseling centers, community mental health, and private practice. They currently serve as Public Policy Committee Chairperson for SAIGE (a division of ACA), leading opposition to anti-LGBTQIA legislation. Additional roles include positions on the Association for Specialists in Group Work’s Research Committee and Counselors for Social Justice’s Taskforce.
Recent research emphasizes cyber racism in counseling cyberspaces and advocacy strategies for marginalized identities. Their work bridges clinical practice, policy advocacy, and ethical challenges in digital mental health spaces.
